Moira is a community bot for Root (rootapp.com). This page explains what Moira stores, why, and how to get it removed. Moira only sees what happens in communities where it has been added.
What we store
- User IDs: Root user and community IDs, so data can be tied to the right member.
- Activity counts and XP: message counts, XP, levels, streaks and check-ins. Moira does not keep a copy of normal messages to calculate these.
- Voice time: when you join and leave voice channels, used for voice XP and leaderboards.
- Economy data: wallet and bank balances, inventory, and game history needed to run the economy.
- Birthdays, only if you set one yourself (month and day only).
- Anonymous confessions: the confession is posted without your name. A staff-only copy (your user ID and the text) goes to the community's mod log so staff can act on safety reports.
- Sticky notes and feeds: the message ID of the current sticky in each channel and the last news link posted, so nothing is posted twice. No personal data.
- Moderation logs: warnings, strikes, kicks, bans and their reasons, plus the moderator who issued them.
- Starboard references: message and channel IDs of starred messages, so they can be shown in the spotlight.
- Recently deleted or edited messages (snipe): the last few per channel, kept in memory for a short time so staff and members can use
,snipe. - Optional profile links you set yourself, like a Last.fm, GitHub or Roblox username, AFK notes, reminders and confessions.
- Outside lookups: commands like weather, translate, define and crypto send only your query text to that public service.
- Community settings: channels, roles and options that staff configure.
Why
Only to run the features of the community you're in: levels, leaderboards, the economy, birthdays, moderation and the starboard. We do not use your data for advertising or profiling.
Retention
Data is kept while Moira is in the community and the feature is in use. If Moira is removed from a community, its data for that community is deleted within 30 days. Moderation logs are kept as long as the community's staff need them, unless deletion is requested.
Deletion on request
You can ask for your data to be deleted, or ask what we store about you, in the support server. Community owners can ask for all of their community's data to be removed. Some moderation records may be kept if they're needed to keep a community safe, such as an active ban.
Sharing
We never sell your data. We don't share it with third parties, except when the law requires it. Data you see in a community (like leaderboards) is visible to other members of that community.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
